Aligner tips & tricks
On this page, we regularly post new tips for you – from the best way to clean your clear aligners to emergency tips for when you lose an aligner.
Tip 6: Keep your old aligners!
As soon as you switch to your next set of aligners, it's a good idea to keep the "old" ones. So: clean them thoroughly, dry them and put them back in the aligner pouch.
They are an important backup in case you lose your current aligner. You can then use the "old" one until a suitable replacement has been made. In some cases, however, it is also possible to move straight on to the next set of aligners.
Just ask. We're happy to help!
Tip 5: If an aligner rubs...
If the edges of your aligners are rough and scratch your gums, you can simply file the corners smooth with a nail file.
Tip 4: Aligner cleaning tip
Simply clean your invisible aligners with a toothbrush or, if you're out and about, rinse them with cold water.
Tip 3: Aligner cleaning tip
Important: please don't use toothpaste! The fine abrasive particles damage the aligner and make it cloudy, dull and therefore visible. Alternatives are Retainer Brite cleaning tablets, a 50:50 mixture of vinegar and water, or a denture cleaner.
Use for 15 minutes each time and: done!
Tip 2: Aligner emergency tip:
If you lose an aligner...
"It is usually only loss that teaches us the value of things."
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788–1860), philosopher
Because aligners are almost invisible, they are easy to lose. This usually happens when you take them out to eat in a restaurant and wrap them in a paper napkin. When the table is cleared, nobody pays attention and it's gone. Searching through the kitchen waste is pointless – you won't find it again.
What you should do:
- If you have only just started wearing the aligner, go back to the previous one.
- If you have already been wearing the aligner for a while, try putting in the next one.
