The most frequently asked questions about Invisalign
Invisalign is certainly one of the most straightforward treatments there are in the field of orthodontics. Even so, there are a few questions that patients keep asking us about everyday life with Invisalign aligners, and we would like to answer them here.
Can very hot drinks make the Invisalign aligners lose their shape?
No, the Invisalign aligners sit directly on the teeth and therefore cannot lose their shape.
Can I use an electric toothbrush with Invisalign?
Yes, of course. Even if you have attachments on your teeth, you can use an electric toothbrush.
Can my child be treated with Invisalign aligners too?
Yes, there are special Invisalign Teen aligners. They even have a monitoring function, so that the doctor and the parents can check whether the aligners are actually being worn.
How can I tell that an Invisalign aligner does not fit and that I cannot move on to the next aligner yet?
The Invisalign aligner does not sit properly on all the teeth across the whole back or front area, or it does not sit properly on just a few individual teeth (often the lateral incisors!). The aligner only seats on all the teeth when you bite down firmly. Lots of “saliva bubbles” appear between the aligner and the tooth.
What do I do if an Invisalign aligner does not fit?
If the aligners do not fit in one spot, try using the blue occlusion trainer in that area several times a day to bring them back into position. Sometimes it is also necessary to remove the attachments or even to order new aligners. As soon as you notice that one or more teeth are “coming out” of the aligner, it is best to arrange an earlier check-up appointment.
Is lifelong retention necessary?
Teeth move throughout life, just as our hair keeps growing throughout life. A retainer that holds the teeth in the correct position is necessary if you want to enjoy your straight teeth for a long time after orthodontic treatment.
What should I do if I cannot wear my Invisalign aligners for a few hours?
Simply wear the Invisalign aligners as much as possible again. If, at the end of the agreed wearing period (usually 14 days), the aligner is not yet sitting properly, simply wear it for 1 or 2 days longer so that you can make up for the lost time.
