Braces: information on cost coverage and billing with your health insurance fund
Austrian health insurance funds count the Eltz Institut among the qualified orthodontic practices, so with our braces you may be able to have part of your treatment costs reimbursed by your health insurance fund.

Which braces are covered by health insurance?
At the Eltz Institut, we offer Invisalign, the invisible & removable brace, as well as fixed braces with clear and silver brackets.

For both types of braces, you are entitled to reimbursement of costs from the health insurance funds - in different amounts.
What does the health insurance subsidy depend on?
1. Your health insurance fund
Each fund pays different subsidies. We have looked into the details and can give you information about your fund at your free initial consultation.
2. Severity of your misalignment according to the IOTN classification
The IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need) is a clinical index for assessing the need for treatment on a scale from 1 to 5.
- Grade 1: no need for treatment
- Grade 2: minor anomaly, no need for treatment
- Grade 3: borderline need for treatment
- Grade 4: need for treatment
- Grade 5: need for treatment
If there is no need for treatment, most funds do not pay a subsidy. From IOTN 2 upwards, some funds pay a subsidy.
The higher the grade, the larger the subsidy can be. For children up to the age of 18, treatment at the Eltz Institut from IOTN 4 upwards is even free of charge.
3. The braces you choose
Some funds grant larger subsidies for fixed braces than for Invisalign.
How reimbursement works at the Eltz Institut
After every consultation, you receive a detailed cost plan. You submit this to your health insurance fund. If the treatment is approved, the fund pays a subsidy every year.
To receive it, you first pay our invoice and then send our payment confirmation to your health insurance fund. We have special forms for this, which we give you at the consultation. The health insurance subsidy varies as follows:
- ÖGK (Austrian Health Insurance Fund): €724.50 per treatment year
- BVAEB (Insurance Institution for Public Servants, Railways and Mining): €3,500.00 one-off
- KFA (Health Care Fund for Employees of the City of Vienna): €724.50 per treatment year
- SVS (Social Insurance Authority for the Self-Employed): €724.50 per treatment year
Bonus at Eltz: flexible instalment plans
At your free initial consultation, you will find out your treatment costs and your expected reimbursement from your health insurance fund.

This allows us to agree together on monthly instalments over a term of your choice, so that the treatment is painless not only medically but also financially.
During this time, we support you with the reimbursement from your health insurance fund and, if required, with deducting the costs from your taxes, so that the treatment is as affordable as possible for you.
