How invisible aligners work

Invisible trays, also known as aligners, offer a modern and aesthetic way of correcting misaligned teeth. Unlike traditional fixed braces, aligners are made of transparent, custom-made plastic and are removable. The way they work is simple and effective:

• 1.   Individual planning: At the start of treatment, a detailed treatment plan is drawn up on the basis of a digital 3D scan as well as photos and X-rays of your teeth. Special software simulates the planned tooth movement, so you can see the end result in advance.
• 2.   Sequence of aligners: You receive a series of custom-made aligners that are precisely matched to the position of your teeth. Each aligner is designed to move your teeth gradually and gently into the desired position.
• 3.   Step-by-step correction: Each aligner is worn for about 1–2 weeks and moves your teeth with gentle, constant pressure. After this time you switch to the next aligner, which moves the teeth further. This process is repeated until the desired tooth position has been achieved.
• 4.   Daily wearing time: For an optimal result, the aligners should be worn for 20–22 hours a day. However, you can simply take them out to eat, drink and for oral hygiene (brushing and flossing).
• 5.   Regular check-ups: During treatment you visit our institute regularly so that we can monitor progress and make sure the tooth movement is going as planned. Adjustments are made if necessary.
• 6.   Final result and retention: As soon as your teeth have reached the desired position, you receive a retention aligner (retainer) that prevents the teeth from shifting again. This way your new smile is preserved in the long term.
