Question: Can I still play musical instruments?

DDr. Köhne: You can play musical or wind instruments without any problems. It is also not a problem if you take the braces out while playing. But please make sure that they are worn for about 20 to 22 hours a day.

Dr. Busche: You can still play your favorite sport.

Dr. Eltz: Sometimes you feel a bit of pressure in the first three days. But this subsides quickly. Our methods do not allow for not being able to do anything due to pain.

Question: Can I chew gum with my braces?

Dr. Busche: In principle, you should refrain from chewing gum whilst wearing braces. The braces should be removed before every meal or snack.

What is the best way to clean my braces?

DDr. Köhne: The best way to clean braces is to rinse them with lukewarm water. But you can also clean them with a brush or special cleaning tablets.

The most common questions about early treatment in children

When should a child be examined for the first-time regarding teeth regulation?

We recommend that children - ideally at the age of 5 - have an orthodontic examination. Usually no treatment is needed, but should there be difficult growth problems, treatment can be started early.

 

What happens if one misses the “right time” with children?

Should one miss the right point in time, then in the worst-case scenario, one will need more intensive treatment resulting in more expensive surgical procedures
